One of the most admirable people I have known was my aunt Arlie. She was my grandfather’s youngest sister. She raised 6 children and was very busy with her family while I was very busy in music training. Then I was married. Aunt Arlie had arthritis. Her feet were so crippled that she had to have her shoes custom made. But every time that her family gave her money for new shoes, she gave it to a needy family. I had lost my mother and my dad was in the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force). I had just had a beautiful baby boy. One day I was home alone with the baby, when there was knock at the door. It was aunt Arlie who had walked for blocks from the bus stop. She had brought something I loved, but hadn’t had in years: a jar of lemon butter. It is made from about 6 eggs and is cooked very slowly with lemon juice. I know that she thought I had been lonely and missed my family. She was right. She was one of the most selfless persons I have ever known. She was also a very religious person. (3 votes) |
